Since January 2017, growing violence between government and separatists' armed groups has forced families of the South-West and North-West Regions to leave their villages and towns. Many have lost everything to indiscriminate fire. This project will help 120 of them start again by providing cash transfers to families. BIRDS is the only humanitarian actor providing cash transfers in the whole Lebialem Division right now.
The conflict between the Cameroonian government and separatist forces is growing in intensity. Military raids and armed combat have made more than 300,000 people abandon their villages and towns since December 2017. They flee to the forest and urban centers. Very large groups of families (15 - 40 people) are staying together in tiny spaces, with limited or no access to water, food, and healthcare. Entire families have been divided, and great businessmen and women have turned into beggars.
This project will support 120 widows and orphans fleeing from armed conflict in Essoh-Attah. Your donation will be used as both material and cash transfer, so they can use it to feed themselves appropriately, access health services, set up small businesses to become self-reliant and rent suitable homes. Some also use the money to take their families out of the conflict zones. For as little as $127, you can give hope to a family that has lost both the family head and everything
By being the safety net of these families you are mitigating the devastating effects of war. Your support will have long-lasting effects on the most vulnerable (young children and pregnant women). Families will have greater security of income and increased skills while living more dignified lives; families' health improved; community is empowered.
