By Alyssa McClorey | SAGE Fundraising and Programming
This past month SAGE finalized and distributed its 2011 application, with plans to reach more interior locations by using World Teach volunteers to help us distribute. We also began to forge a relationship with the Ministry of Education in Guyana, which has access to all secondary schools and promising students throughout the country.
We are developing new initiatives that strive to support our students with more than just tuition, our goal being to create a strong network of SAGE scholars and alumni. We are currently working to establish internships and mentorships for our scholars.
Our new fundraising efforts include reaching out to Amerian-based Guyanese organizations and building relationships based on a common interest in the development of Guyana.
Finally, we would like to welcome Tarna Sadhoo to the SAGE team. Taruna is native Guyanese and currently lives in NYC. She is an alumni of WorldTeach Guyana and now works in higher education at Columbia University. She will be working on our programming in Guyana and reaching out to the Guyanese community in NYC.
