Newest SAGE scholar - Caleb Morris
Dear SAGE Supporter:
One month ago our second SAGE Scholar, Caleb Morris, entered the University of Guyana. Due to Caleb’s high level of financial need, SAGE committed to provide not only his tuition, but also room, board, transportation, and other necessities. Caleb’s story, which you can read in the attached newsletter, is representative of the students SAGE is committed to funding.
The attached SAGE Newsletter contains an introduction to the 2010 SAGE Scholar and an update from Patricee Douglas, the 2009 SAGE Scholar. On behalf of the SAGE Board, Caleb, and Patricee, thank you! We appreciate your support and hope you will consider donating again. Follow the link below to view the full newsletter and hear more from Caleb and Patricee.
Best,
The SAGE Board

2010 applications received

Patricee Douglas, SAGE scholar, 2009
As our inaugural SAGE Scholar, Patricee Daniels, finishes up her first year at the University of Guyana, we look back on the excitement we had for her when she was starting her Biology program. Her dedication to her country radiated from her application when she wrote, "After I would have acquired my training in the area that I have selected, I want to be someone who is known for her dedication for and love for her country…someone who contributed to change in Guyana and the development of our lovely native land."
Now, we have received another batch of highly competitive applications and are energized again by the opportunity each applicant represents for Guyana. This year's applications come from several different regions of Guyana and include students who wish to study Medicine, Eco-tourism and several aspects of Business. Each candidate has shared with us their unique story and the commitment to their country that they have already begun to show. We certainly have some difficult decisions ahead!
Stay tuned here and to our website (http://sageguyana.org) for updates about our organization and our scholars!

Happy Holidays from SAGE
By Alyssa McClorey | Fundraising
Thanks for your continued support of SAGE and our amazing scholars!
This fall we welcomed three new SAGE scholars to our family! Marcella Gonsalves, Kaveta Mohammed, and Kevin Morgan all began their studies at the University of Guyana on August 29th, 2011. These scholars are pursuing diverse degrees from International Relations to Law to Medical Technology. They are dedicated to the development of Guyana, specifically in addressing inequality in the country and Guyana’s position in the global community. For more on these individual scholars, as well as Patricee, please check out our website. www.sageguyana.org
This fall SAGE began pursing several grant opportunities in order to hire a staff member on the ground in Guyana. This staff member will allow us to reach more students from the interior, and create mentorships, internships and tutoring programs for our scholars.
Your continued and generous donations, help SAGE support the education and preparation these students need to become leaders and innovators in their communities and country.
Best,
SAGE board
