Although neighbors, Israelis and Palestinians effectively live separated by checkpoints, travel restrictions, fear and distrust. This summer Global Giving donors helped Johanna and Sara travel 7,000 miles to meet as enemies, break down barriers of anger and prejudice, and make friends. Both girls are passionate about their countries but left as friends, with a new respect for each other and a commitment to peace. Your donation will help them keep strong in their hope for peace.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

Johanna and Sara live less than ninety miles apart, Johanna in Kibbutz Harduf and Sara in Nablus, the West Bank. They want to meet, share stories, even become friends. They want to believe that "peace is possible" and a chance to make it real. But at home it's virtually impossible because of check points and travel restrictions. They want to come to our peace camp in New Mexico, to a safe place far from the conflict, where they can begin their journey as peacemakers.

How will this project solve this problem?

As part of a camp of 14 teenage girls they will they will participate in dialogue, art and team-building activities. These activities create deep bonds of friendship and understanding of "the enemy" as the foundation for future work for peace. They will join 200 young women who have stepped outside of the conflict to focus on their shared experiences, fears, hopes, and dreams. They meet not as Israelis and Palestinians but as people. Can you help us do it? Be a peacemaker: DONATE NOW

Potential Long Term Impact

For the girls: a life-changing experience. For Israel and Palestine: over 200 young women actively working for peaceful coexistence. For YOU: a big step toward becoming the Peacemaker that you are: DONATE NOW Camp is the first step in our program that trains young women to become lifelong peacemakers. Our YOUNG LEADER PROGRAM in Israel and Palestine builds on this foundation with higher level training and action including talking at schools, educating the military and dialogue groups.
