GIVE LOW-INCOME ENTREPRENEURS A FAIR SHOT!

As we conclude another wonderful and amazing cohort, we thought to use this time to discuss the struggles of our students.  During the 6 month program, at least half of our students experience homelessness.  At least 2 students were jailed, 1 was hospitalized from COVID-related complications and 1 student actually hijacked with her daughter in the car.  

One might think, how can dreams survive in the midst of such Chaos? 

How can Hope stay alive and or one's ability to believe remain something that is possible?

I can only sum it up in one word! 

It's called RESILIENCE!!

That is what our students have. This is who they are!   They have a resolve that no matter what comes, no matter what goes, FAILURE is not an option!  

This was my story and this is why I created this program, for others like me. 

I stand with our students and together we will fight until no more fight is required.  

The reality is, owning a small business is already hard work.  It need not be impossible for under-resourced entrepreneurs who have suffered trauma and oppression.

Everyone deserves a fair shot!  A fair chance to accomplish their dreams like everyone else without barriers, obstacles, and or hindrances.

It shouldn't be this hard ladies and gentlemen! 

If we don't give them a fair shot today, then when?  If we won't help them manifest their vision today, then when?

Do you want to know a secret?  I hate calling our brilliant low-income students under-resourced. 

So many of our students are faced with deplorable and some of the most desperate situations, yet they still come to class, ready to pull up their sleeves and get to work.  They are so committed to changing the trajectory of their future, their restlessness makes you think... Are they under-resourced?  Or is this the name we feel we must say to warrant the giving attention from donors like you?

Over the years, I have learned the real difference between poverty and wealth.  And neither of them has anything to do with money.  While poverty marks the mind that will wait on someone to do something for them- this dependent mindset has no vision and therefore cannot value and or finds the means to gather and analyze their resources to make their very next move.

The Wealth mindset sees opportunity in almost everything.  It hopes, trusts, and believes in the impossible, even when everything tells it -this won't happen!  It's their ability to see beyond their natural sight and become whatever is necessary not just for self-preservation, but for the thriving and survival of their neighbors.  

This Wealth is what I see every day in our classrooms.

So, maybe there not so under-resourced after all. 

Maybe they live in an oppressed America that knows an injustice exists but doesn't care enough to find out why and or who is behind it.  

See our entrepreneurs would rather have a hand-up than a handout!  

Here at Can I Live, we do the work that many nonprofits don't do.  We challenge the status quo and more often than not, get rejected and or denied access to serve!

Without your help, that service is challenging, to say the least.  

Our impact would be so much greater, only if we had more access.  I encourage you to give till your heart is content.  Share this initiative with your friend and families.
