This project is aimed at building the extension of the Theatre called Casa Naranja, the only theatre in the neighborhood Aguablanca in Cali, where the highest levels of poverty and indigence are concentrated. It is a place where the arts and the community work give kids and young people the chance to improve their quality of live, the chance to dream, in an attempt to build healthy social human beings under the theme of life to find peace, tolerance and respect, our base values.
Aguablanca is located in the western part of the city of Cali, Colombia. In Colombia, violence, specially youth violence is one topic of concern for its citizens. In Cali, statistics show that most causes of death are because of violent crimes (homicides and traffic accidents). These acts of vandalism are part of everyday life for people who live in Aguablanca. Our youth's constant manifestations of violence shows us how the people that are excluded socially react to their situation.
We need to transform our youth reality and this implies to create ways to include our youth in different scenarios such as cultural and artistic participation. This project will allow our youth to have different options during their free time. The cultural and artistic activities allow our youth to recognize themselves, to have relationships, to share, to create social links with the same neighborhood habitants and most important to feel a sense of belonging in their neighborhood.
This project will promote arts and culture for children, their families and the community as a social intervention strategy to have a positive impact in their lives. By having the Theatre Casa Naranja, the community will be involved in the process of cultural participation and therefore strengthening the sense of belonging to their city.
