Summary

Based in Bend, Oregon, our rescue takes in abandoned companion birds, provides the best care, diet, behavior training and matches them with a compassionate adopter whenever possible. Your donation will directly fund vet care, nutritious food and shelter construction. Currently we have built a shelter to house small or featherless birds and are expanding our outdoor aviary for larger parrots. There are 50 birds in our care and in 2016 we facilitated more than 10 successful adoptions.

Challenge

Companion parrots have a long lifespan. Some live over 60 years and may sometimes outlive their owners. As a result, a lot of them are left behind without a home. Exotic birds can also be an impulse purchase. The new owners have not researched their food requirements or noise levels, leading to animal abuse and abandonment.

Solution

Our facility is the only 501(c)3 exotic bird rescue organization in Northern California that is still able to take in birds. We have 5 acres available to house more birds. Through your donation we hope to support the rescue, rehabilitation, and veterinary needs of the birds in addition to lifetime care for those who were abused and will need to live in our sanctuary for their life time. Other organizations are based on a network of private homes which has resulted in birds being turned away.

Long-Term Impact

Our mission is to also educate the public about the importance of adoption over buying a companion bird from a pet store. Currently we have 50 birds in our care. In 2016 alone we successfully helped more than 10 birds find their forever home. Our thorough adoption vetting process includes an adopter interview, home visit and adopter education. We believe our work has created a sustainable cycle in reducing the surge in the number of abandoned companion birds.
