Give 50 Street Soccer Players Education

by Hoops Care International

Sports and education is the trademark for the youth in these times. Introducing a round ball brings many of these young ones which then give rise to the opportunity to include education to their training.

We returned to the Northern and Upper West regions of Ghana to check on these young lads that we have incorporated into our soccer program, working closely with a sports evangelism group to also institute life skills.

The trip was a huge success as we saw a growth in the number of youth who we left with selected mentors.

In Cape Coast, most of those we started with are currently been able to secure clubs to play with. We are excited that our motivation and training has enabled them to be scouted for these clubs. We plan to follow and bring you updates once their league season starts.

Our next trip to the North is schedule for May.

Kindly continue to give your support to these young ones.

From January to April, we have been interacting with some youth from two communities in the Northern Region of Ghana. The two communities, namely Yong and Laligu benefited by receiving soccer balls and some of the children also got fairly used clothes and soccer cleats.

In Yong, a team was established call Yong Stars. This team comprises of young boys 14 years and below. They train on a regular basis during the week and on weekend some of them are added to the amateur team which plays in a league. Some of the boys who have educational lapses were also helped twice a week.

For Laligu community, they did not have any team at all for boys 14 years and under. Therefore, a new team was formed called Conquerors.

After weeks of training, both teams played a home and away soccer match with Yong winning on both occasions.

We are hoping to continue helping them not only build their soccer skills but also develop spiritually and mentally.

Your continuous support is necessary to help these boys build a solid foundation. Please we welcome donations in-kind as well in the form of sports equipment or educational materials.

This Christmas was very special for the boys in the ETS program. One of their main sponsor was able to donate funds which was use to get them sports equipment.

We were also glad to have a lunch meeting wherein issues regarding the development of the program was freely share.

Starting next week, a full training and educational schedule will be release.

At this time we would like to share some of the photos with you.

Kindly please continue to support this program as the funds will go a long way in preparing these athletes face the challenges of life.

In our next report, we will start to send you a personal story of each of the participants in their own words.

Thanks for your continuous support.

For some time now the boys has been training both on and off the soccer pitch. We have been able to have a couple of them shoot their training session so that you can see their sills level.

Currently we are still maintaining the few boys and girls who have enrolled for the program. Although we have been able to acquire things which are needed for their educational session, we are still far behind when it comes to athletic gears, especially for the girls.

We are still appealing to all donors to continue to support this project. Remember that your generous donations will go a long way in making the life of these boys and girls better.

We are also looking for inkind donation. If you would like to give in kind, kindly contact us through email for more information on how you can send in your donation. Email address is

Sports Brings Unity: The first ever beach soccer tournament supported by Hoops Care was a success. The tournament which was organize by community members lasted for a month with community teams playing mid-week and on the weekends. The tournament saw six other communities from in and around Amanful competing. The message sent across that through sports these communities can live together in peace. Every game saw the young boys who were mostly 12U displaying excellent ball skills. The final was held on May 19th between K20 from Amanful and PSG from Gejanoo. PSG won the coveted trophy with a 3-0 win. The MVP and Goal King also came from their club. We are currently having series of meetings for the 2nd tournament starting next month or early September. Stay tuned!

E.T.S. Girls

Girls Power: We have hit another milestone! Yes, and we are so excited to have girls now a part of the Education Through Soccer initiative! For some time now, girls within the communities we work with has been asking to be a part of our soccer program. We have finally have the time and schedule to include them and what an excitement it was when they were told that their training would start, which was last Saturday. For a start, they will train once a week, and have educational activities at our office twice a week. This is also coming with it's own challenge as many of these girls are also bread winners for their families as they have to go out and sell. We will keep you updated.
