Children from low income families are worst affected when they have disability as the parents have hardly any money to even support food, shelter and clothing for them. This affects these children long term. The project is helping these children and families in Mumbai by providing them developmental intervention like assessments and therapies by trained medical professionals. The project started in July 15 and has already provided more than 2500 therapies to children with disability.
Lots of children around the world have been diagnosed late in life about the disability and hence corrective measures have not been very successful. We have realized that early intervention in these children's lives makes a major difference, identification and intervention being the key. Unfortunately, the city lacks adequate facility and appropriate infrastructure to handle such cases.
Identify children with developmental difficulties in high risk populations through visits to schools, hospitals, community health workers, Aganwadi, Public Health Centers, doctors, neonatologist, general practitioners and walk in parents. Provide a team for inclusive assessments of these children and provide interventions through therapies to children with developmental delays.
Children with developmental delays will benefit from the project as they will receive quality medical support through trained doctors and therapist. This will help them overcome their challenges they face physically, mentally and emotionally. The parents of most of these children strive hard to make a daily living and having a child with disability is very difficult for them to cope up with. The project will also offer these parents hope and will to meet the challenges for their children
