Many people in remote areas of Thailand do not have access to basic dental care. In some rural areas children do not even own a toothbrush and have never been taught how to care for their teeth. It is common for children to suffer with toothaches for weeks or even months before they are able to get treatment. During the pandemic, dental care has not been allowed in hospitals and can only be done in dedicated dental clinics which has made it even harder to access dentists. We recently went to 5 schools in rural areas of Chiang Mai Province; Huaypong, Maesoi, Yangmuen, Maewae and Pangkhum Schools. Our dental team taught 600 kids how to do basic dental care. Children received a dental exam, were given toothbrushes and toothpaste, were instructed on dental hygiene, and received fluoride treatment. Not only do we want to give them healthy teeth, but we also want to give them a beautiful smile. The kids were happy to participate with us as we put on a program that included singing, playing games and learning how to have a beautiful smile in a fun way.
