Without proper treatment, children walk with great difficulty, making clubfoot one of the leading causes of permanent disability in Nicaragua. Children with untreated clubfoot in Nicaragua often go without treatment, never going to school or becoming active members of their communities.
miraclefeet provides materials, clubfoot braces, parent education, patient follow-up, and training in Nicaragua to ensure high-quality Ponseti treatment. miraclefeet currently supports clinics in Managua and Leon with over 200 children already in treatment, including older children with neglected clubfoot. miraclefeet has plans to partner with 2 more clinics within the next 12 months in order to provide accessible treatment to children all over the country.
Proper clubfoot treatment prevents permanent disability. The 270 children treated will become active members of their society rather than being hidden away, giving them possibilities to go to school, work and be productive and active community members. In addition to changing the futures of these children, supporting Ponseti treatment is establishing the Ponseti Method as the preferred clubfoot treatment, providing a long-term solution for future children born with clubfoot.
