Educate Girls' learning kit emphasizes the use of activities and games to teach English, Hindi and Math to primary level grades. The kit provides every school with child-centric teaching material and training. Each kit includes a box of posters, playing cards, crayons and much more to make learning fun for children. We have already financed and implemented the project in close to 4500 schools in Pali and Jalore districts of Rajasthan.
According to the Census 2011, a quarter of the population in India still cannot read or write. Due to the lack of school supplies there is a fall in the ratio of attendance in school. Social and cultural groups form an unseen barrier for the girls to study. In addition, lack of basic teaching supplies makes it difficult for teachers to use interactive and creative methods in the classrooms.
Classroom transactions play an important role in retaining children in school. We train government school teachers in child-centric, creative learning techniques to improve learning levels and academic performance. A pre-test is conducted to establish a baseline. After the implementation of the learning kit curriculum, we conduct a post-test to measure the child's progress in Math, Hindi and English reading.
A recent study by Educate Girls indicated that in just three months, children showed improvement in Hindi reading from 15% to 35% and English reading increased from 7% to 27%. The percentage of students capable of 2 digit multiplication and division also increased from 11 to 29%. In the long term, empowering and educating children and especially girls' yields positive returns to the families, societies and communities, both now and for generations to come.
