Summary

"Water is life & its gift is the best" Under this project UWAD will provide clean & safe water to 25 drought hit villages. Women & girls walk long distances and spend many hours in a day to collect water and due to water crisis majority of people are using unsafe water that leads to many diseases. This program will focus on providing potable water, water filters, water treatments, health education for safe water storage and management, awareness and prevention from diseases.

Challenge

In water crisis areas women & girls are affected They may walk long distance & many hours every day to collect water for their families need to survive for drinking, cooking and hygiene. They are left with little to no time for work, school or to care for family. Majority people in this area use unsafe drinking water that leads to many diseases & this is very dangerous during pregnancy and may cause death due to illness from dirty water. Without water anyone can`t live up to their full potential

Solution

For access of safe drinking water by providing potable water to families and schools, also installing and maintaining water purification and desalination units in school and villages. We provide water filters, bio-sand filter and purifiers. Promote low cost solution such as chlorine tablets, alum and educate people about water management and storage techniques, Create awareness of hygiene, water born diseases and prevention. Each village have safe drinking water center that run at low fee.

Long-Term Impact

Long-term goals completion of potable water systems in 25 villages, reduction in water-borne diseases and greater awareness of health issues and changes in hygiene and sanitation practices & hand pump installation. Greater availability of time for women and girls to engage in education and income generation. Each village have 2 trained person that run and maintain potable water center and provide training time to time in school and village and create a model of inter-agency collaboration.
