The donated building for the center
Hello Light for Children donors!
We would first like to say a big Thank You to every single one of you. Without you Light for Children couldn't continue to do the work we do.
We wanted to let you know of a new project we are embarking on which we are very excited about- our Education Center!
While Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is a compulsory subject in Ghana, did you know that many children and youth never get the chance to learn basic computer skills through an actual computer? Our goal is to open a free computer centre for school-children in Kumasi to enable underprivileged Ghanaian students to be connected with our ever-changing, digital world of information.
Our goal is to open a free computer center for schoolchildren in Kumasi where volunteers can teach ICT for all of the 10 cluster schools. The average size of each class is 35 students and each school will be sending 3 classes to attend to our program. The ages of the children participating in the programme span 12 to 15.
Last summer I taught ICT at many schools and it was a real struggle without a computer lab. All 50+ students would huddle around my small laptop and try to see the screen. The students had to copy all notes and diagrams from the board because there were no textbooks. With this new education center more children can learn ICT and be connected to the world around them.
We are looking for monetary donations as well as donations of children's books and PC desktop computers. Please visit our Education Center Global Giving page for more information-
