Hello everyone, and I hope wherever you are you have had a good summer break.
We rather wish here at ECHO that we had been able to continue through August instead of taking our annual month-long break. The final few sessions in July were busier than ever before, with a lovely suprise showing of new library users in Ritsona, where we have had very quiet sessions for a very long time. When Giulio sent me a photo of how many people showed up for the library, at first I didn't believe it!
This energy has carried through to September however, and we have hit the ground running, with already one huge print order completed and another being sorted ready for next week's sessions. We are also - both wonderfully and terrifyingly - running short on several types of book, particularly our English graded readers. If you know anyone who can help we would be grateful for any support in that department.
The library put in appearances at other community events too - Kipseli Mundial community football tournament was another huge success and our wonderful banner for this year was created by the handprints of many of the visiting kids and adults. We also turned up to the Anti-Racist Festival in early July which was a lovely opportunity to meet comrades working in different parts of the solidarity world here in Greece.
In mid-July we also got the wonderful news that we have been selected for the European Cultural Foundation's Europe Challenge, which brings together libraries and community groups to do specific projects together. Our proposal that was accepted is to work with the Sudanese community here in and around Athens to create material and opportunities for learning from and about the Sudanese Revolution. We will keep you updated on how this goes, but safe to say we are very excited for this project to get going.
Wishing you all the very best at the end of a hot summer. As always, thank you for your continued support.
