ECHO mobile library rolls onwards into 2025

Dear Friends and library supporters,

We hope you are well and had a good start of 2025.

The library has had a busy end of year and things look set to continue that way for at least the start of 2025. Particularly Thiva and Oinofyta saw a surge of interest, plus we started visiting a couple of centres here in Athens for unaccompanied minors where we made some lovely connections with young people trying to find their way here in Greece.

The end of the year also saw us say a sad farewell to long-term volunteer Karin who has been with us more than a year, giving her time and her artistic expertise to the library twice a week. She is already missed both by us and by many library users.

We have had some very special moments this year. As volunteers with ECHO we are truly privileged to be able to meet so many wonderful people who come by to talk, to play chess, music and read. So often of course, just as we get to know them, they move on, but we hope that wherever they go they will take some positive library memories and friendships with them. Sometimes people message us saying that they wish there was a mobile library near them in their new place. Other times they joke, asking us when we will be starting a session where they are. We are so glad that, at some of the most difficult moments, the library has been there for people and will continue to be there, at least as long as we can keep going.

I am pleased to attach to this message our annual report for 2024, containing our summary of the year, as well as a break-down of the situation in Greece at the moment. In a world where some politics and ideology seek to de-humanise migrants and refugees we are reminded through your support of the more positive aspects of humanity which recognise people as the unique individuals they are, striving for safe passage and a dignified future for themselves and their families.

Once again, a huge thank you from all of us at ECHO library and best wishes for the year ahead.
