Art is a great form of expression. Rebuilding Alliance has more than 60 original paintings hand carried out of Gaza to share with the outside world. We will be curating art shows and exhibitions across South California. This allows the artists to directly benefit from the purchase of their work. The funds here are raised to support the work of Rebuilding Alliance that helps sustain the Gaza in Colors project. Will you support the future of this event?
Artists in Gaza create art as an outlet - trapped in an open-air prison, it can be difficult to communicate with the outside world. Their stories are often compressed into one-dimensional narratives told by people who have never walked in their shoes. The economy in Gaza is totally stagnated by the blockade, and so it can be difficult to support oneself as an artist. Additionally, very few people outside Gaza associate it with anything other than violence and chaos - art can change that.
By providing opportunities for young artists in Gaza to share their stories with the outside world, we hope to open channels for the international community to come to understand their struggle. Art is a language that connects us all, and carries the potential to convey rich emotions, important perspectives, and complex feelings. Sharing this art demonstrates the valuable context of the humanity and creativity of people in Gaza - they are more than just a people under occupation.
Showing the work of Gaza artists will provide them with financial support, exposure, and will raise awareness about the blockade. Their art will help people around the world to view Palestinians in Gaza in a new light - a colorful, creative, and vibrant one, rather than only what is shown in the media. We hope to catalyze a worldwide demand for the creative work of Gaza artists, which will encourage a lifting of the blockade.
