This Project is raising money to provide flexible funding support to BGC Canada in order to support and provide opportunities for the over 200,000 Canadian youth we serve annually. For 120+ years, BGC Canada has been creating opportunities for millions of Canadian kids and teens. As Canada's largest child and youth-serving charitable and community services organization, our Clubs open their doors to young people of all ages and their families at 736 locations nationwide.
Our Clubs remain focused on their work but need increased support to overcome the challenges they face daily. From the increased need for capacity and services, the financial effects of inflation, increased youth mental health challenges, staffing challenges, and more. BGC Canada remains committed to providing support for our Clubs and working to both overcome and find solutions to these challenges. Young people are our future, and we remain committed to providing consistent support.
Our Clubs and their work are proven to improve the lives of those that attend. A joint study by the University of Winnipeg and the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy (MCHP) found that youth who participate in BGC Canada Club programming perform better in some areas of academics and are more engaged in learning than their peers. As well, participation in Club programs appears to protect youth against adverse social outcomes and risky health behaviours.
BGC Canada participants are shown to have improved long-term health, social, and educational outcomes. The importance of providing support for children at a young age cannot be overstated. Programs like those offered by BGC Canada have a large impact on life-long health and well-being. Recognizing how these influences shape health and well-being across the life course, and supporting the growth and development of children and youth is essential for building a vibrant, successful society.
