Fulfill Holiday Wishes for 662 Bay Area Children

Inspire Joy

The gifts we receive as children inspire lifelong passions whether they be as artists, engineers, or doctors. This holiday season, together we can inspire local low-income children and fulfill their wishes.

Tony, age 5 from San Francisco City Impact wishes for a Leapfrog Learning Activity Table. To Tony, this is not just a toy. It is a tool to help develop basic learning skills that will propell him in to a brighter future.

For those children like Tony, your generosity shows that they matter in the community. Not receiving a gift can dishearten children. Your gift can encourage them to pursue their passion.

Deliver joy this holiday season
Deliver joy this holiday season

The sweltering heat of July seems the furthest thing from the holidays but the wishes are beginning to arrive. As the requests come in, we see the bigger picture of poverty in Silicon Valley: bedding, shoes, clothes, and educational toys. The needs of the community for basic amenities grows. Struggling to pay increased rent and provide food leaves little left for holiday gifts.

Children living in these families grow up expecting little during the season of giving; children like Luis who, when asked what he wished for, replied,

“Two pillows. My mom and sister are sleeping on the floor of my grandmother’s house and I would like for them to each have a pillow.”

They may not know what poverty means but they feel its effects. Poverty should not define the memories of children. As we collect thousands of wishes like Luis’, we ask the community to gather together and aim to deliver joy to over 70,000 children and individuals. You can deliver joy this holiday season, fulfilling the wishes of those most in-need in our community.

Each year Family Giving Tree strives to improve our Holiday Wish Drive to better serve the community. In this 25th year, to celebrate a milestone anniversary, Family Giving Tree is embarking on a project to better impact those most in-need; investing in the future of the organization through improved technology.

This new technology undertaking involves an updated database as well as a new project called Gift Inventory and Fulfillment Tracking System (G.I.F.T.S.), which will allow Family Giving Tree to track each gift, showing the journey from wish to joy delivered.

You can be a part of that change.  Invest in Family Giving Tree’s Funding the Future Campaign and support us as we aim to better serve the community for the next 25 years.

My Wish Came True!
My Wish Came True!

As we look back on another successful Holiday Wish Drive, we wanted to take this opportunity to say, “Thank you for bringing priceless joy and happy memories for years to come!” Your generosity fulfilled the exact wishes of over 72,600 children and individuals in-need. You understand that delivering a specifically wished-for gift to a child in-need makes them feel valued and remembered by their community. It gives them something of their very own to cherish; knowing they weren’t forgotten.

Vanessa, 10, from Community United San Jose, “Family Giving Tree is great because they help families who don’t have enough money to buy gifts. I got a Pillow Pet which is exactly what I wished for.” Briana, 7, “My wish came true when I got my scooter.”

Together we better people’s lives through the power of giving and bring the community closer during this season of sharing. We love being able to show you the moments your generosity creates.

What I wanted for the Holidays
What I wanted for the Holidays

For families living in poverty, the holidays are not a time of celebration. They are a painful reminder that, in a valley of immense wealth, they go without year-round. As wishes come in to our database, we too are reminded of how little they have; many wishing for basics such as bedding, shoes, clothes, and warm jackets.

A life in poverty means instability, disappointment, and saddness. A gift during the holidays brings immeasurable joy and stability to their lives. Giving a child in-need the exact gift they wished for says, "You matter" and shows them the community cares for them.

We can't do it without. As we prepare for our 25th Holiday Wish Drive with a goal of fulfilling 75,000 wishes, consider fulfilling the wish of a child in-need and providing them with the joy of the holiday season they don't often feel.
