Many Rochester, NY students need a helping hand to be successful in school. This project will bring many more volunteers into city schools to help students and help revitalize education excellence.
The academic results of Rochester public schools are poor. In 2012, only 22% of elementary school children passed the State English exam; 7,100 children did not pass. These children will struggle in school until they have adequate skills - many will drop out. Most elementary schools do not achieve acceptable results. In 2012, only 3 of the 38 elementary schools had more than 40% of students pass the State English exam. Improving student success is fundamental to revitalizing Rochester.
Most Rochester students need a helping hand to be successful in school. This project will provide 200 new community volunteers to support teachers by providing one-on-one assistance for 1400 students. Volunteers provide essential 1:1 student support.
Improving Rochester student performance will transform the entire Rochester community. The city will be safer and more prosperous. Families of all types will want to live in the city. Businesses will invest and thrive in the city.
