This project will provide one year medical insurance to 50 infants and vulnerable single expectant mothers in order to reduce child mortality and improve on their health and also empower the mothers with vocational, social, entrepreneurship and business management skills for them to become self supportive. The mothers hail from school drop outs, rape, teenage pregnancies,prostitution, parent negligence and are regarded as outcasts in society, they get frustrated and forced to unsafe relations.
Kawempe Division is one of the largest slum settlements in kampala city and highly ranked with a number of social problems ranging from crimes,poverty,prostitution,unemployment,hot spot for HIV/AIDS,congestion.The population is comprised of young girls and women who are exposed to sexual exploitation inform of rape,incest,defilement,early marriages resulting to high instances of teenage and unplanned pregnancies, community labels them as outcasts.More than 1000 women,babies will benefit-project
The project will provide a one year free medical insurance health services to 50 single expectant mothers and their infants,train the mothers on vocational skills of tailoring, liquid soap making, crafting , baking, and also empower them with social skills. The mothers will also be trained on entrepreneurship and business management skills for them to be self supporting and for the welbeing of their unborn and born children. The mothers will be linked to various markets for products from skills.
The project will lead to increased survival of the single expectant mothers and their babies as a result of their medical expenses being covered through the medical insurance package, improved health for both mother and child, increase financial independence amongst the single expectant mothers, Reduction in social deviance such as prostitution, abortion, suicide tendencies, child sacrifice and infanticide amongst single expectant mothers, increased incomes and improved economic levels ofmothers
