Summary

The Meet Kate Foundation supports local initiatives in Ghana. One of the initiatives we support and advise is that of the vocational training school of FrankEve in Ekwamkrom, Ghana. The FrankEve Foundation is helping young vulnerable girls with a technical vocational training. FrankEve gives 25% of their students a full scholarship, so they are able to learn a skill and become independent women. FrankEve is trying to put up a restaurant which will help to sustain the project financially.

Challenge

65% of the girls at FrankEve have completed Junior Highschool. However, since the majority of the population is unemployed, there is not enough money for their children to further their education into Senior High school or a Vocational Institute. FrankEve is the only Vocational Training Institute in Ekwamkrom and because of their small school fees and scholarships they are better able to address the most vulnerable girls in this area and help them with an education to improve their future chance

Solution

FrankEve provides Technical Vocational Training (cooking/sewing) to girls to become independent and financially secured to overcome life time challenges. This has helped minimize young girls depending on men. Through our internships, the girls also learn the practical side of the training and often are able to start their own shop or work for somebody after graduation. Moreover, they are working towards the building of their own restaurant, for extra internships and sustainability of the school.

Long-Term Impact

The long term effect will be that girls in this community and other neighbouring towns and villages will be self employed, have their human resource improved and will not rely on the government for jobs. They can also go to bigger cities to look for jobs in their field of study. FrankEve will also employ some of these girls in their soon to be build restaurant to earn an income as well as making the foundation sustainable.
