"Cause 10,000 Bold Leaders" will dramatically shift the engagement level, civic participation and personal involvement of young leaders around the world by training older teen participants to facilitate unique, dynamic and highly reflective one-day workshops in hundreds of secondary school classrooms in the U.S., the Middle East, Africa and the Caribbean. The workshops have been proven to increase perspective sharing, collaboration, community participation and personal integrity.
Living in an information and knowledge heavy world has caused an imbalance in the social and personal development of human beings, particularly among young people. This leads to diminished communication skills, a difficulty in taking and sharing different perspectives and a reduced role in the voice of young people in society. Education for knowledge only, leaves a gap in self-awareness and makes it difficult for students to fully invest themselves in the world around them.
The project creates an engaging, interactive and highly reflective PAUSE in the daily educational life of a student that provides immediate value. This pause is an opening to consider and talk about who they are in relation to the world around them and to themselves. A high level of personal ownership is created - it is very hard to keep the workshops "at arm's length". Participation requires risk-taking and being a little uncomfortable - which is a great environment for learning.
We have been working with 300+ young leaders for the last several years and they are ready to be trained to do similar work with others. Training them as facilitators and organizers of these workshops will then cause them to reach more than 10,000 students by December 2016. That means 10,000 students in 10 countries whose participation in their community will then shift entire conversations about young people, voice, collaboration, leadership and community.
