Belgium is a wealthy country! However not everyone is able to enjoy it. 14 % of children live in poverty and risk of social exclusion. They live in stressful environments and lack basic needs among which are safety and food. Although many public services exists, these children are less able to enjoy the benefits of our well structured society.
Habbekrats has 14 houses in 10 cities with open doors for all children. No need for administration or income fees. These houses are a large and safe meeting spaces for children and youngsters on the one hand and professional educators on the other. The latter offer the children playfulness, happiness, advice but also provide urgent help and basic needs such as food.
Habbekrats has been working for children since 1991. The potential long-term impact is very clear to us. When you take care of children, make sure they are safe and sound, inspire them with adventurous activities, give them advice or help when needed, they grow into strong adults and worthy citizens whom, in their turn leave a valuable footprint on our society. The ten communities where Habbekrats is active, are full of such valuable people.
