In the past four years, the number of people seeking food assistance from Burbank Temporary Aid Center has quadrupled. So, when it comes to the holidays, it can put a strain on our resources to keep up with the need.
Thus far in November and December, BTAC has distributed more than 750 turkeys,or hams, along with the "fixin's" for the traditional holiday meals. By the end of 2012, that number will exceed 1,000. And those are just families with children. In mid-November, I was panicked about how we were going to get enough turkeys to give to everyone. Then I remembered the generous donations through Global Giving. When I reviewed the donations, I breathed a sigh of relief, knowing we would be able to manage!
While other food pantries have had to cut back the amounts and quality of holiday food they could distribute, BTAC has been able to keep up with the need. I look forward to a day when the need isn't so great, and my mind can rest a bit more easy. But until that day, I want you to know how much your gift touches lives of people who are truly in need.
Often you will never know that someone is struggling. They could work with you, attend the same congregation, or have kids at the same school as yours. They hide behind a brave face, but inside, they are trying to decide whether to put food on the table or pay the power bill or car insurance. BTAC - and you through your gift - helps alleviate some of thier concern.
Thank you again, for your support.
