A few days ago, I received an email from a woman who had been spending so much time at the hospital with her young son who was ill, that she had not been able to work. I can't imagine the feeling of having to choose between working to provide for your child and comforting him during his hospital stay.
Her power was about to be turned off, rent was due and there was no food in the cupboards - and her son was coming home from the hospital.
She made an appointment with Burbank Temporary Aid Center's case manager, who was able to help her find resources for the utilities, etc. Those things would take a bit more time. But before she left, her back seat was filled with canned and packaged foods to last almost a month!
Our shelves need to stay full, so we can help families like this one keep food in thier cupboards. But the springtime is always a lean time at our food pantry. In order to keep up with the need, we use funds you have donated to ensure we have enough food on hand.
On behalf of all the people who receive food from BTAC, thank you for your generousity.
