Food for Homeless Lunches

When most of us see a homeless person on the street, we often will look the other way.  We can't imagine how someone chould have reched such a point.  We really just don't understand.

Whetheror not we understand how they arrived at thier current cituation, we know they are in precarious circumstances and need help.  I am often asked whether I recommend giving money to homeless who are panhandling.  That is a very personal decision each individual needs to make on thier own.  But I do remind them that they should encourage homeless who are near our Center to stop by and see if we can address some of thier needs.  

The first thing BTAC volunteers do when a new homeless person arrives is to sign them up to receive the daily sack lunches.  Addressing hunger is the prioirity.  Each from 10:30 a.m. - 12 noon, the sack lunches - the lunche you help provide - are distributed to the homeless in Burbank.

One by one, each person receives a sack lunch with his or her choice of fruites, salads, sweets, etc.  They are greed by name and with a smile by a BTAC volunteer.  Sometimes that smile is just as important as the food!

Most of us have dieted at some time in our lives.  Remember how deprived we felt, just cutting back or changing some of our eating habits?  Now, imagine if you had no choice.  You could count on only one meal a day, And you had to hope it would be enough to fill you up and keep you going until the next day.

That's what it is like for the homeless who come to Burbank Temporary Aid Center for thier daily sack lunches.  We try to have a hearty sandwich, fruit, beverage, something sweet, as well as salty.  But with your funds, we can add in some extras to help stave off the hunger pangs.

Sometimes it is as simple as adding a few granola bars or some fresh fruit.  But we would really like to add in an extra sandwich, too.  So, your donation helps make that possible. 

Every day, we hear the words of thanks as lunches are distributed.  But that thanks is also for you.  For your caring touches lives every day.
