Due to the health emergency caused by Covid-19 in Colombia, thousands of vulnerable families who meet their basic needs thanks to informal jobs face a crisis of food shortages, which mainly affects growing and developing children, adolescents and adults with health complications. This project seeks to provide relief through the delivery of kits with food and personal care products to 100 families who do not have the resources or help from third parties to have food on their homes.
This project arises from the need to support the families of the Foundation that have a higher degree of social and economic vulnerability. Many caregivers had informal jobs that they have abandoned because they are unable to leave their homes due to the current Covid-19 contingency, and do not have the resources to supply their pantries and feed their children. Other parents have lost their jobs because the financial crisis has caused many companies and establishments in Colombia to close.
This project seeks to bring relief to 100 families of the Foundation, through the delivery of a food package (rice, beans, lentils, sugar, salt, tuna, eggs, oil, pasta, chocolate, flour and other basic products), in addition to offering children with diaper disabilities, personal hygiene and prevention tools against the Covid-19.
The priority needs are addressed to prevent health problems such as malnutrition and associated illnesses, in addition to preventing mental health problems for parents and caregivers who face high levels of stress, anxiety and concern for financial uncertainty in their homes. This project has an important long-term impact because it benefits a population that is in developing ages where adequate nutrition is a determining factor in healthy growth and disease prevention in subsequent years.
