The torrential rain caused havoc in Kerala and parts of Kodagu (Karnataka) leading to heavy mud flow due to landslides, opening of the shutters of the dams causing heavy flow of muddy water through medium and large streams resulting damage on the sides of the streams/rivers. Most of the families have lost all their belongings as they were evacuated and moved to the relief camps. Immediate requirement is to provide food and basic support to family and children
In Wayanad District (Kerala) and Coorg (Karnataka) over 10,000 families have been displaced due to torrential rains. Families are currently staying in relief campaign. Once the families start to move into respective homes, there will be need to provide them support with basic necessities - food, family kits, books and stationary and toys for children.
United Way Bengaluru is setting up community kitchens to provide food to the families. Basic family kit will be distributed to the families which will help to settle families quickly in their homes. Children are traumatized they will be provided with toy, books and stationary.
The project will help to quickly rehabilitate over 5000 families, which are affected by rains and flood.
