The project is designed to provide ten to fifteen children in care, the experience of First Lego League (FLL) 14 Tournament in 2018 in Turkey. Accordingly a group of children who are in care in Ankara would be chosen up and they would team up to two. Our project would provide not only necessary tools for contributing tournament but also two coaches for each team and necessary environment for a process of learning and exploring until the tournament to develop their human resource and life skills.
Children in care is one of the most disadvantageous group of youth which makes them hard to compete with their peers not only in education but also in job market. Nearly 72% of children in care drop out high school in Turkey. There are problems of education persistence and delinquency. The main causes of those are stigmatization and lack of confidence since those children internalize negative stereotypes limiting their aspirations regarding work, life or making a difference in their surrounding.
"First Lego League Thrill for Children in Care" would provide to help children aged 6 to 16 through their social adaptation during care by using science as a therapeutic approach. Thus, supporting children would ensure expanding their vision, provide them a chance to dream and create for better. The project would enhance those children's self-esteem in life and team skills as well as boost their interest in science. Children would get a chance to improve their ability to struggle towards a goal.
"First Lego League Thrill for Children in Care" would provide fifteen children the experience of FLL in Turkey. Although when we compare the existent number of children in care, it is a small number, this project would be beneficial as it aims to ensure an equal environment and strong footing for children to compete rather than directing them without their own initiative. Our project is designed to demolish the social walls and present the project as a good practice by showing its social impact.
