SPECIAL EVENTS IN 2012
REPORT FROM VISIT AT THE GLOBALGIVING PROGRAM
‘MORE SCHOOL FOR ME’ IN MAGUDE 07.12.12.
The delegations from Motorcare and the Lurdes Mutola Foundation together left Maputo for Magude on the 7th of December 2012 to visit the ‘More School For Me’-program (‘Mais Escola Pra Mim’), a Globalgiving Program of the Lurdes Mutola Foundation. The purpose of the visit was to present the program to the Motorcare delegation as well as the symbolically handing over of the donation made by same delegation together with the Friends of the Lurdes Mutola Foundation, the Ford Foundation and the Globalgiving Foundation of the total value of $13.000,00.
The visitors were met by singing students participating in the program; girls from rural areas granted a scholarship to study up until tenth grade including accommodation, alimentation and extra-curricular activities, as well as the house mother who takes care of the girls. The visitors were showed around the dormitories, sanitary facilities, kitchen and living room before sitting down to meet the girls. The girls sang a couple of songs and then the Executive Director of the Lurdes Mutola Foundation presented the program and its participants. The Executive Director of Motorcare Mozambique was then invited to talk to the girls, which he did stressing the importance of them continuing studying and expressing the pride Motorcare take in helping them in this effort. After his speech, he symbolically handed over a check of $13.000,00 to the girls and the Lurdes Mutola Foundation. After photographing the donation and the girls, all students and participating visitors received a snack, also a donation from Motorcare. After the snack the students had to leave for school to write their exams, and the Motorcare delegation accompanied them and thus also saw the local school which the granted students of the program attend.
The Lurdes Mutola Foundation is very thankful for the support given and shown by Motorcare, the Ford Foundation, the Globalgiving Foundation as well as the Friends of the Lurdes Mutola Foundation and hope that this collaboration will continue over the coming years so that numerous more young people of Mozambique can benefit from proper education, sports and other activities promoting leadership and entrepreneurship.
Thank you again for collaboration.
