Helping People Afford Basic Healthcare

The cleft lip/ palate international surgical mission finished yesterday. Done were 101 surgeries and 6 obturators. 172 were screened. We are now busy clearing up and discharging the 
Patients and sending off the volunteers, etc. pist operation check up will be on Dec 6. This was the only international mission to the Philippines for the year. Quite big. We had 60  OS volunteers from abroad and from the other provinces. This does not include the local doctors who came and went after surgeries. We had 50 kdf volunteers ( 30 arellano nurses and 10 local volunteers from our partners and 10 KDF / JADMC staff. It was a huge task...went seamlessly well!!!! Food was cooked in my mother's house. My brother lent us a car for marketing and food delivery. The outing to the diaspora and cultural tour of bacolor and guagua churces and JDMC was appreciated. Their visit to Subic for a picnic was great!!! They loved the beach. The farewell dinner hosted by Myrna and Boy Bituin was beautiful !!! Native lechon  was served. Everyday was packed w 30-32 surgeries done a day. Final screening and decking on the first day was big and smooth w 30 student nurses snd 10 kdf staff and 10 volunteers from partners helping.... We fed the parenrs from day 1- day to the last day. We had a call center to track the patients and fetch those who had no money.... We cooked food for all the volunteers!!!! Thanks to all the foreign and local vplunteers and our staff !!! Great job. Kdf / JADMC prepared for this for a year. Looking for patients, screening them, coordinating w the local ngos and lgus, soliciting funds and contributions in kind..... Lots of work. Thank god it is now a weekened and all can rest. Last night the Operations Smile gave a farewell dinner for the group of OS volunteers to say goodbye and thank you!!!!
