This two years project will instill behavior change in400 youth through the establishment of a one-stop youth service proving Centre. The project with support from the community will provide services including; library, games, educative movies and counseling, under the guidance of a mentor. Through a labor-intensive approach, the project will economically empower the youth through the support of viable enterprise initiatives. The existing Village Development Committee will do the monitoring.
In 2019 alone, Upper Madi county of Madi Okollo district registered 65 known cases of youth suicide attempts with 15 deaths, according to records obtained from the four sub-counties. The source indicates that these attempts are a result of drug miss-use mainly opium and alcohol. In Okollo healthy centre, 62% of the youth who tested HIV positive noted they get infected because of the push from economic hardships & drunkardness. This project will instill behavior change & economic empowerment.
The project will facilitate behavior change through provision of youth-friendly services including sports and games, counseling, mentorship and career guidance through educative videos. The project will under a labor-intensive arrangement support 40 youth groups and their 400 individual members to engage in economically viable enterprises. The group labor-intensive concepts are proposed to allow and easy capacity building of the individual members.
The project will reduce miss use of drugs among youth by instilling behavior change and economic empowerment in 400 at-risk youth of Okollo trading centre and Awaa villages of Okollo parish, Okollo sub-county of Madi Okollo district in the Republic of Uganda
