Fellow Mortals is a professional wildlife hospital that cares for injured and orphaned wild animals brought to the hospital by compassionate members of the community. Treated animals include songbirds, waterfowl, hawks, eagles, owls, rabbits, red and grey squirrels, opossum, woodchucks, beaver, and many other species. Nearly 50,000 wild animals of more than 100 species have received care since 1985, with the majority successfully returned to the wild
Wisconsin is home to an amazing wealth and variety of natural creatures, from the majestic great horned owl to the petite cottontail. Each year, many of these wild animals will confront misfortune, injured by a vehicle or perhaps orphaned by someone's pet. Some of these injured and orphaned creatures will be lucky enough to be found by compassionate people and brought to Fellow Mortals Wildlife Hospital, where they will be cared for with the hope of their eventual release back into the wild.
Fellow Mortals provides care for all species of wild birds and most species of wild mammals. Open 365 days a year, we accept injured and orphaned wildlife into care at no charge to the public. Staffed by four licensed and experienced wildlife rehabilitators and assisted by veterinarians and student interns, the hospital provides professional, compassionate medical care for over 2,000 animals a year. Fellow Mortals is one of the largest and busiest wildlife hospitals in the nation
Fellow Mortals is more than a place; it is a living philosophy based on the belief that encouraging compassion in humans toward all life brings out the finest aspects of our humanity. Fellow Mortals provides an irreplaceable service to wildlife, as well as the opportunity to educate and inspire people in our communities how to live harmoniously with wildlife in their backyards. Fellow Mortals strives to continue to reduce the numbers of animals admitted through community outreach and education.
