Fellow Mortals--Compassion Changes Everything

by Fellow Mortals Wildlife Hospital Vetted since 2013 Top Ranked Effective Nonprofit Site Visit Verified

Fellow Mortals provides professional wildlife care for injured and orphaned animals brought to the wildlife hospital by the public. We do not charge for our services, so they are available to all. Patients include songbirds, ducks and geese, hawks, eagles, owls, rabbits, squirrels, opossum, woodchucks, beaver, white-tailed deer, and many other species. Nearly 50,000 wild animals of 130 species have received care since 1985, with the majority successfully rehabilitated and released.

As rural areas are developed, human activity and structures lead to injury or orphaning of wildlife. Cars, windows, insecticides, traps, poison, and domestic pets can turn a wild creature's world upside down in an instant. Some of these injured and orphaned creatures will be lucky enough to be found by compassionate people and brought to Fellow Mortals Wildlife Hospital, where they will receive medical and rehabilitative care with the ultimate goal of release back to the wild.

Fellow Mortals provides care for all species of wild birds and most species of wild mammals. Open 365 days a year, we accept injured and orphaned wildlife at no charge to the public. Staffed by five licensed and experienced wildlife rehabilitators and assisted by veterinarians and a handful of college interns, the hospital provides professional medical care for 2,000 animals a year. Fellow Mortals' facilities are uniquely designed to gave wild creatures space while they heal.

Long-Term Impact

Every year, 2,000 injured and orphaned animals are saved from suffering and death, and the thousands of people who call for help or rescue an animal are inspired and educated when we teach them how they can positively impact wildlife and the environment in their everyday lives. Fellow Mortals has a physical location, but it is more than that; ours is a living philosophy based on the belief that encouraging compassion in humans toward all life brings out the finest aspects of our humanity.
