Native Peruvian Children live on very little, and often go without a healthy lunch. Their parents must leave the village for the day to go and labor in the fields. Our missionary partners are working with the women of the villages, that don't leave, to prepare hot and healthy meals for the children who wouldn't have them otherwise. $0.50 feeds a child a hot and healthy lunch. They also need large pots and cookware to be able to cook for many children. You can make a lasting difference!
The native children often go without a hot and healthy lunch as their parents leave for the entire day to go and work in the fields to make a living. They may not have much to eat at all, and if they do it is often just a snack. A hot and healthy meal is important for their healthy growth, development, and long term health. They do not have options like we are used to, such as microwaving a meal, so they would have to cook with an open fire which is dangerous and difficult for young children.
Our missionaries are working with the women who do not leave the village, to equip them, teach them, and fund them to feed all of the children in the village a hot and healthy lunch. By giving the women the proper tools and training to cook for large groups, they can provide for the children who's parents cannot. We are working to add more villages, so that all of the children have hot and healthy lunches. Once we have all of them with at least 1 lunch a week, we will add days per week.
As the community leaders see that this has a positive impact on their children, for a small investment, and that it can be done effectively by a few willing women in their community, this can become a sustainable project. As the women are equipped and trained, the children can be fed very economically. As this model grows throughout the tribe, each village can better take care of their children and improve their long term health, growth, and development. Generations will have a better start!
