FEED A CAMEROONIAN FAMILY (WOMEN PALM OIL PROJECT)
By Wirkom Fred Mbiydzenyuy - Project leader
a trip to a women group for training
Feed a Cameroon family project is not actually giving food, but it is to provide a means for families to be able to engage themselves in an income generating activity that can provide food and other opportunities for them to improve their living standard. Palm Oil remain a major need for every family in this part of the country and at the same time an easy income generating activity that can be carried out by some poor families. Demand for Palm oil continue to skyrocket and most families earn up not feeding themselves because of lack of this element. So far we have been going on with some trainings by visiting these women groups on some basic book keeping. We have continued to encourage them to get on with the little quantity at the level of their groups whereby, 20 liters of Palm oil is shared among 30 to 40 women and after a two weeks they pay for the stock to be replenished. We hope that if this project is supported at the level of the NGO,we shall be able to buy in large quantity and share out to these groups at a cheaper price for them to sell among themselves in reasonable quantities. Those who are able to be selling within their own localities shall be doing so for income generation for their families hence helping others to have it at prices below the market price. All the 34 women and common initiative groups have been equipped with the required skills while we are soliciting for funds to be able to kick off with the centrally controlled project by the NGO. We have one of the pictures taken at Nkuv where they take a Seven hours to come to Kumbo just to get a 20 liters of Palm to be shared among them. Our Volunteer Miss Julie Diamond worked on this project and say the high need and is also working hard to see that in future the project should be realized and get going. She will be in Cameroon in August for this purpose. However, We have not received any funding for this project, we are getting on with at the level of the groups and hoping for success in future. Keep in touch for more if your are interested to support or to recommend this project for and support.
