Necklace Making at the Festival
On June 9th, 500+ children and 300+ parents impacted by Superstorm Sandy came together in the Belle Harbor neighborhood of the Rockaways to enjoy a full day of games, art, food, and music. Over the course of 4 hours, families were able to escape their loses and enjoy a day to do art therapy, feast on healthy food, play in bouncy castles and get wet on a water slide. Everyone enjoyed taking a day off from rebuilding to celebrate each other and their community.
Many of the families are still dealing with the aftermath of the storm, but this did not stop people from donating to the Do Your Part Oklahoma Disaster Relief Fund. We raised almost $1000 through raffles and a bake sale, which will make a difference in those that are just now dealing with the aftermath of a deadly and devestating natural disaster.
Special attention was paid to ensure the use of local vendors and to highlight community organizations that have been isntrumental in Sandy relief. The combination of beautiful weather, wonderful activities, and happy families made the day a true success and a time of peace for so many.
Do Your Part would like to thank Global Giving, and all of you that donated to our project, which helped to make this day happen, and gave joy to so many. Thank You.
