Dear Friends,
GEMINI continues to reach out to an increasing number of young people in their quest for improving their lives. Sometimes we are overwhelmed by the positive responses but at other times, negative social norms and attitudes simply shock us.
Nevertheless, the success stories keep us going. The following is a personal story from one of our beneficiaries, a key volunteer in our quest to reach out to young people with reproductive health information. Please enjoy the testimony from Naomi!
"I never gave up when I was informed I could not proceed with my college education. When I joined the GEMINI program and started learning about how I could impact the lives of other youth through my newly acquired skills in videography, my pain slowly dissolved.
"Developing communication messages on sexuality provides and ensuring more youth access reproductive health information gives me a fresh impetus to serve my community. I know maybe I will never get the opportunity to attend college (although I'm hoping for the best), I want to make my life a living example that when one window closes, another opens with more opportunities.
"This past quarter, we have been able to reach out to over 1,300 young people through musical concerts, face-to-face interactions, group counseling and roadshows. We distributed over 4,000 behaviour change materials.
"We still have a long way to go. We still need your help. On behalf of all GEMINI beneficiaries and volunteers, I would like to extend my warmest appreciation, gratitude and thanks to all of you who have continued to support our projects. As the new year kicks off, we hope you will be there to hold our hands and encourage us to tackle deep-seated cultural attitudes that kill girls' dreams.
"Thank you so much and please, keep us in your thoughts..."
Well said. Indeed, GEMINI still needs your help. Your feedback, thoughts and comments keep us focussed and determined to finish the race.
All the best for this new year!
Stella
