Thank you so much for your support for ChildVoice’s Punena Health Centre in Northern Uganda. This week, the government released a report about the growing coverage of healthcare for the people of Gulu District in Northern Uganda. In the area that ChildVoice works, over 75% of the population now has access to a health center which includes the Punena Health Centre.
Unfortunately, this only tells part of the story. While the government is restoring these badly needed health centers, they do not have the resources to maintain adequate drug stores and have not been able to consistently pay their staff. As a result, the ChildVoice Punena Health Centre has experienced an incredible influx in patients. Just yesterday, we treated over 300 patients, with some walking over five hours to receive basic healthcare. You have helped provide the necessary resources at a critical time.
Currently, we are only able to provide these services from 9 to 5, Monday to Friday. Continued support is necessary for us to maintain our current level of services. However, increased support would allow us to upgrade the amount of services. To open the health center 24 hours a day seven days a week, we need more medications, supplies, staff housing, and fencing for the clinic.
Healthcare is vital to the livelihoods of northern Ugandans as they recover from two decades of war. Please continue giving and ask your friends to join in restoring badly needed health care to this former conflict region.
