Sonati's free environmental education programs work to empower thousands of local children and adults to become a voice for positive change in their communities. We have reached over 70,000 participants since our founding in 2009 through classroom activities, outdoor excursions, forest festivals, and community projects. Your support will significantly expand our programs to more parts of Nicaragua to reach our goal of 100,000 participants by 2016.
The forests of Nicaragua continue to disappear every year. Rivers used by communities are clogged with trash. Energy is unattainable in dozens of rural homes. Sonati seeks to educate and prepare thousands to become environmentally conscious citizens. The significant reduction of forests has major negative impacts on Nicaraguan life. It is imperative that the next generations of Nicaraguans have a voice to combat the decline in the country's environment.
We believe that the best way toward positive environmental change is through the involvement of the community in a shared mission. Promoting awareness and education on environmental protection is necessary to prevent further destruction to Nicaragua's forests. Our free environmental programs, leadership courses, and community activities serve tens of thousands. We work to create the proper mindset for citizens to recognize problems and gain the skills necessary to implement positive change.
This project allows us to significantly expand our free environmental education programs to more communities around Nicaragua. Through more projects, locations, and programs, we are able to reach our goal of 100,000 participants by 2016 and continue to grow. It is our hope that the next generation of environmental leaders leads to the enhanced protection of the pristine Nicaraguan environment.
