The 1938 Evian Conference, convened in Evian, France & attended by 32 leading world countries upon the direction of US President Franklin Roosevelt at the beginning of WWII was assembled to address the growing immigrant crisis created by Adolf Hitler's Nazi regime & persecution of European Jews. This project seeks to create a commemorative brass plaque & organize a ceremony citing the importance of this conference where currently there is no evidence or documentation of any type in the hotel.
Stemming back to WWII, the French government has a history of being intolerant & unsupportive towards Jewish groups or Jewish immigration to their country. Now, based on current events and similar persecution & atrocities committed against other ethnic groups around the world, there has been an easing in their past stance. This has opened the door for a formal ceremony at the site of the hotel where the Evian Conference was held to recognize its' importance & far-reaching results to World Jewry
By officially recognizing this 1938 conference site and raising global awareness of its lasting historic significance as the place where the fate of millions of European Jewish lives was determined, affixing this brass plaque citing "in this room" or "on this date in history" at a dedication ceremony with UN representatives, French diplomatic & World Jewish leaders, will formally bring to light the overarching themes of the importance of fighting intolerance & inequality in today's world.
With "Educating & Remembering" as the overarching theme of the nonprofit, Sosua75, generations of students & tourists coming to the area staying at this hotel will learn about this important chapter in world history, which is hardly known, spoken, or taught in Jewish history circles. It will cause those to reflect in thought what the huge consequences are of being a bystander and turning a blind eye to prejudice can perpetuate, in this case "Kristallnacht" and Hitler's "Final Solution."
