Clean water is fundamental to the health and wellbeing of any community. Earlier this year we opened a new primary school in southern Ethiopia's Filingur community. However, a major barrier to education still exists since the community has no access to clean water and the closest water source is located 5-9km away and is unprotected and contaminated. We need your help in raising the final $19,000 to build a well to provide clean, fresh water to the 700 students and their families in Filangur.
For many Ethiopian families, it is the responsibility of the daughter to fetch water for their family. Many girls are denied the chance to attend school as their days are spent traveling to and from remote water sources. There is a severe drought in many parts of Ethiopia, which has created severe water shortages and famine to millions of people.
The new well will provide over a 1000 community members with access to clean water and will give girls a chance to attend their new school daily now that they will not have to fetch water 5-9km away that is currently unprotected and contaminated.
We will provide access to clean water to 1000 community members, allowing the girls and boys to attend school without having to worry about water collection. Clean water will provide the community with good health and allow them to rise out of poverty with proper access to water and education.
