Challenge

Child marriage is any formal or informal union where any one or both are under the age of 18 years of age. According to the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) Report of Ghana, on average, one out of five girls (20 per cent) in Ghana are married before their 18th birthday. This equals 256,780 girls per year. However, for girls living in the three regions of the northern part of the country, this number increases to one out of three girls (34 per cent).

Solution

Law and policy dissemination/explanations; Train the existing CCPC members including women Empower girls aged 10-18 years through; Increase knowledge and vocational skill development; Organise state actors-community engagements; Organise community deliberations and role plays; Research, analyse data, document and share; Monitor, evaluate and report results/outcome; Provide psycho-social child counseling,health care,legal aid and training for children, women.

Long-Term Impact

Beneficiary community members gained insight of the existing law /policy guidelines and complimenting the effort of the law enforcement agencies /actors; 105 CCPC persons become knowledgeable and responsive to child abuse cases/have action plans; Number of girls (150) empowered, aware of the implications of child marriage and acts as role models in; Established and improved working relationship among the state actors and the community members in the implementation district.
