CURRENT PROGRESS OF THE PROJECT

APRIL 2014 TO JUNE, 2014

School health programs have been administered in developed countries of the world since a long time.Realizing their importance, many developing countries have also taken initiatives to introduce national school health programs in their education system. Comprehensive school health programs for children include nutrition and growth, oral hygiene, de worming etc.

The link between good eye health and learning capabilities of children, their improved quality of life and brighter future is well established. Consequently ensuring good general and eye health in schools is as important as delivering them quality education. It is critical that eye health as part of the general school health programs is integrated into the public education system.

Children can be effected by arrange of eye diseases that can lead to visual impairment in childhood or in later years of life. Many of these diseases are preventable or treatable.

The project team of Khyber Eye Foundation this time started its project in Charsadda district. During the period, the team screened 19753 students for refractive errors and issue them medicine / glasses free of cost. So far the the affected students have been issued glasses / medicine worth of US $ 29340/-

The story of a girl who had refractive error and his life changed after visiting by the project team to her school.

Laiba is a student of class 4 and studying government primary school prang gari shehbaz khan Charsadda. The project team once visited her school and found that Laiba has a refractive error since long. When asked she replied that she has a vision problem since long and her father could not get her eye sight checked due to meager source of income. When asked from Laiba that how could she write her class work from black board, she replied that she use to write from her friend's copy. Optometrist of a team did refraction and found out that her vision was 6/60 in right eye and 6/36 in left eye. She was issued with glasses and now her vision is 6/6.

Khyber Eye Foundation request our donors to continue to support our project and donate maximum so that poor school going students are benefited and can be issued with glasses / medicine free of cost and also get a opportunity to lead healthy life.
