Current progress of the Project
January, 2014 to March, 2014
Children are the most precious wealth of any nation. A country’s progress and development depends on the health and education of its children. Good health is essential for a child’s development. Without good health including eye health, children can be deprived of educational opportunities and bound to have an impaired quality of life. Health education in schools helps children to acquire improved knowledge, attitudes and practices required for leading healthy life. Children in turn once made aware of health issues, act as active agents of change in their families and communities. The importance of addressing child health in schools therefore cannot be ignored.
The Mobile School screening project team of Khyber Eye Foundation has been visiting various government’s school to find out refractive errors in students and issue them medicine / glasses free of cost so, that they should lead a healthy life and their bright future ahead. MSS team has so far issued spectacles and medicines to affected students worth of US $ 25194/-
THE STORY OF A BOY IN HIS OWN WORDS WHO HAD A REFRACTIVE ERRORS AND HOW HIS LIFE CHANGED AFTER VISITING THE MOBILE SCHOOL SCREENING PROJECT TEAM TO HIS SCHOOL
Mr. Raj wali was studying in class 7th, when Khyber Eye Foundation team visited his school, government high school Pishtakhara Pabbi District Nowshera. I could not read the writing on the Black Board since grade 6th and had to ask my desk mat what the teacher has written on the Black board. I was facing lot of problem while reading on the black board and the same complaint I made to my father, but he could not take me to the hospital due to poverty. One fine morning Khyber eye foundation eye screening team visited our school and check my eye sight, I was diagnosed with severe refractive error in both eyes, VA in right eye being 6/24 while in left eye being 6/60, like other students I was given free of cost glasses and now can see the writing on the black board perfectly. The project team paid a follow visit and met all those students including me who were given glasses a year ago. With glasses now I can read what the teacher writes on the black board and am able to take notes on my copy. I am a better student than before. I am in one of the 129289 children who were screened for eye health including refractive errors in Peshawar, Pakistan by Khyber Eye Foundation.
Khyber Eye Foundation request our donors to continue to support our project and donate maximum so that poor school going children are benefited and can be issued with glasses / medicines free of cost.
