This handbook will reach over 3000 users and beyond. This book will aid us in spreading awareness for the leopard, the project and will be used as a teaching tool in our environmental education programs.
Up until now, the education project has relied on posters (in English, Afrikaans and Xhosa) and presentations to communicate our educational messages to children. We would like to be more creative in our approach and produce educational materials of a more interactive and lasting nature. We would like to have groups leave the camps with a manual/children's activity book which contains educational teaching and learning resources that are aligned with the South African school curriculum.
The aim is to create an accessible, entertaining, interactive activity book to introduce participants (aged 10-18) to the Cape Leopard Trust, explain the importance of conserving endangered animal species (especially predators), and encourage young readers to take interest and pride in the natural environment. The activity book will be written in a mixture of fun-to-read and easy-to-follow prose.
Copies will be distributed to the schools and previously disadvantaged communities who live in the Trust's study areas and surrounds. We aim to give participants an experience that is stimulating on all levels, and ultimately gives them a sense of connection to the wilderness and nature.
