This report covers the period of November 2014 to January 2015. During this period 65 women were assisted to deliver in the maternity ward of Mayanja Memorial Hospital in Mbarara Uganda. Twenty six mothers delivered by caesarean section (operative delivery) while thirty nine had normal vaginal deliveries. The newborns of these deliveries were in good health at the time of discharge. Funds from Global Giving channelled through Mayanja Memorial Hospital Foundation were used to pay hospital charges for one of the mothers who had a caesarean delivery but did not have the money to pay for the operation. Mayanja Memorial Hospital also subsidised the charges for three mothers who had operative deliveries and one mother with a normal delivery. Ensuring safe delivery to rural Ugandan women is still a challenge due to limited resources. The loss of a mother due to pregnant related causes is a major blow to the family as it leads to aggravating existing challenges. The causes of deaths of mothers, in most cases, also lead to neonatal losses or complications. We extend thanks to GlobalGiving and all its members and partners for the support rendered and we call on more people to support this cause.
