Town lifestyle in rural villages, save the marriage!

Nasreen in her late 20’s is a community resource person from Dhabeiji town in Mirpur Sakhro, Sindh, Pakistan. At a training she met Saleh Mohammad, chairperson of the local support organization. They became fond of each other and one day in 2017, he proposed to her and they got married. Saleh lived in Jaffer Jhokio, a village a few kilometers from her town. She was a town dweller, liberal woman the thought of moving to a small village made her a bit nervous. He reassured her and took her to visit his village. Contrary to her assumption about life in a small village, she saw that there was running water, electricity and things were not quite as she thought they would be, so she agreed to move in with him.

She moved to Jaffer Jhokio and joined the local women’s community organization as the general secretary. Nasreen with an entrepreneurial mindset, saw the need for laundry services in the village. She set up a washing and ironing shop in her home. She has hired her sister-in-law to undertake the washing and ironing services. Her clients include the entire village folk who require their clothes well laundered for their work and at times wedding suits. Nasreen just gave birth to a healthy baby girl.

In 2016 a year before their wedding, IET helped setup the first solar mini grid in the country. One of the four mini grids setup were in Jaffer Jhokio, his village. This love story would have a different ending if there was no electricity in his village!
