Engage 150 kids to keep the beach clean in Greece

by iSea, Environmental Organization for the Preservation of the Aquatic Ecosystems Effective Nonprofit

We are aiming at empowering at least 150 kids in Greece on becoming the future sea protectors. A minimum of 10 interactive actions will be implemented, properly designed for children of general and special education. Our actions are based on various outdoors and indoors actions to empower the future of sea users, the kids. Environmental games, educational activities, zero waste cleanups promoting the idea of reduce-reuse-recycle will aim to capture kid's message for the rest of the community.

80% of the marine litter produce through land-based activities and has proved to be an important danger for wildlife. Animals are fed with or trapped in the litter and driven to death. The development of pro-environmental attitude is connected to one's relation to nature created since childhood. The future development lies to our relations to nature. Interactive and outdoor actions, awareness events can contribute to future pro-environmental actions.

Interactive actions, outdoor and indoors actions, awareness events can primary release the local area from an important amount of litter, but also is a means of active engagement to the problem and raises information and awareness for the kids that will participate. Moreover, they will learn how they can easily reduce their impact of litter and protect the sea.

Long-Term Impact

As far as children are concerned their participation contributes to the development of their skills and their mental world that will contribute to the future reduction of the marine pollution problem. Further, children with special educational need are an integral part of the natural and social environment and they interact with it by forming it. Thus, the environmental awareness and involvement in corresponding actions contribute to their integration.
